Adopt a Field Camper Program

UW-Eau Claire Geology alumni have fond memories of field camps in New Mexico, Montana, and Wyoming filled with visions of solving complex geological problems, battling cacti, and grueling days spent amidst spectacular scenery. Truly, geologists have more fun! The UW-Eau Claire field camp experience isn't just a fun summer trip, though. Field camp is a life-changing experience that prepares UW-Eau Claire students for their geology careers by providing a hands-on opportunity to apply classroom knowledge to a real-life experience.

What is the Adopt a Field Camper Program?

Paying for field camp is becoming more difficult for students because of increasing tuition costs, so the Myers/Willis Geology Field Camp Scholarship fund was set up to defray field camp expenses for students. Dr. Paul Myers and Ric Kopp (’75) have donated matching money in memory of Professor Emeritus Ronald Willis, who died in a tragic car accident in July 2015, to build the scholarship. This money will match any donations to the Myers/Willis Scholarship fund to support the Adopt a Field Camper program. In 2017, many generous alumni and friends participated in the Adopt a Field Camper program.  Donations of $6570 were used to defray tuition expenses for twenty Field Camp I students.  All tuition expenses were paid for three students with the highest financial need.  Thanks to all donors!!

What does it mean to "Adopt" a Field Camper?

The Adopt a Field Camper Program is a fundraising campaign providing support for future field campers. It takes ~$1000 in tuition to send a student to field camp, so you can fully "adopt" a field camper by making a $500 donation which is then matched. With a $250 gift, you can sponsor half of a field camper's expenses, and gifts of any amount made to the Adopt a Field Camper campaign will support our fielder campers' expenses!

Why give to the Adopt a Field Camper campaign?

Have you benefited from your UWEC field camp experiences? Please consider a donation of any size to the Adopt a Field Camper program for Field Geology I and II students. The generous matching money means your donation will have twice the impact for all field campers. Your gift will make it possible for future Blugolds to participate in our field camp experiences!
